Grave Expectation

The caterpillar expects to evolve into a butterfly, but sadly, it will perish after transforming.

During the winter of 2019, while looking for Monarch butterfly roosts at the Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont, California, my family learned about the heartbreaking decline of the Monarch Butterfly population. Feasting on non-native Milkweed plants proved to be detrimental to the butterflies’ health and well-being: it threw off their circadian rhythm and harboring pests sabotaged their developing wings in the chrysalis.

An edition of 50, this art is a 9″ x 12″ relief linoleum print with chine collé on 11″ x 14″ Lama Li Lokta paper. It is printed on a Sizzix Big Shot craft press. Number one of the edition is sold in a matted frame and subsequent ones as sleeved prints.
